Why maternity portraits are important even if you don’t like being pregnant | raskausajankuvaus

Note: Today is the last Friday of the month and that means you are getting a little story… When you read it through, do click on to the next photographer of our Life Stories circle. In fact, click through the whole round. :) Enjoy!

Story: I love having expressive clients…

One day this email landed in my mailbox: “We would like to book a preggo session. I’d like to leave most of the planning to you since you are the professional and I have zero imagination, but if you don’t mind, I’d have a request: can we cut the “creating life is incredible”-aspect out? Pregnancy, for me, has always been the height of ridiculousness. Most women view their body as a temple when they’re pregnant, but mine is more like a McDonalds… I’m uncomfortable, and just the other day my toddler told me “Mommy has a big butt!”.  Soooo…

And so – to avoid the “creating life is incredible” we came up with a belly painting theme, except this time the artist wasn’t gonna be my trusty stylist but my client’s toddler. :) Also we shot the first part in nature and the second part under a highway bridge (yummy light!).
When we were parking on the other location, I noticed a rather sizeable difference between the way I parked and between the way my client parked. Turns out the hubby has a military background and a strong habit of “agent parking” (park your car so that you can always escape – or something like that … heh). I had some difficulties relating to that concept as rocking newborns and hugging children is the my main job description ;)
It was to my utmost happiness when I received following messages few days after the clients have seen their images:
“We have been sitting on the sofa the whole evening going: “Could you have ever imagined we’d look so awesome?”
and still later
I just have to tell you once more how happy we are about the pics you took. Most of the times, pictures bring back the time and place in a silent form. But in the ones you took … I can hear my son giggle, and feel the way he curls up when he is having so much fun he can’t stay still anymore. I can hear my boys in the photos, and that’s not an easy thing to accomplish ♥
And that is why you absolutely should have your maternity portraits taken even if you consider pregnancy being just a twist on the allien movies. Because despite your feelings, you are as radiant as any other woman who bears new life. And I don’t care how cliche this sounds. I see it in every woman! I will see it in you! And before you know it, I will make you feel like Heidi Klum. :D

Ah and the highlight of my day – the shoes :D Leave a comment if you find them strange but somehow still appealing. And do you also wonder how it feels walking in them? You KNOW which pair I mean. ;)
