Month: September, 2010
This said John Leonard, an American literary, television, film and cultural critic. To this day I didn’t know someone like John Leonard existed.
But this quote speaks to my heart, especially today, after recent meeting with my friend M., a Finnish friend who I have grown the longest. While we might have been at different stages of our lives stationed in different countries, even continents sometimes, while sometimes a year went by without us being in touch, we never grew apart. I know I can rely on M. when I need her and she knows she can call me at 4 a.m. and it will be fine.
A friend is one of the nicest things you can have, and one of the best things you can be. ~Douglas Pagels
I hope you enjoyed the minisession yesterday. I hope you are going to love these images. You are beautiful and you are a fantastic mother, little E. is a treasure and I promise, we are yet going to have a blast. The life so far has been nothing compared to what’s coming. xoxo ♥♥♥
Did you notice anything odd about these photos?
Yes! There is a bed in a park.
And it’s not just any bed. It’s an original Victorian bed from 17th century, which I have rented for a week and have shoots planned with every day. Stay tuned, more amazing photos coming!
This weekend was busy. And it was great! Squeezed between a wedding portrait photosession, our wedding anniversary, lovely visit of my husband’s colleague and her family, I was also trashing the old “important” papers, such as old electricity bills, vuokraus sopimus (rent contract) of my first appartment in Finland and other pearls.
I got rid of at least one tree! Well, almost.
Among the old papers I found lots of hand written letters from people who are dear to my heart. My best friend from college, my aunt, my mum, my grandfather! That one, in particular made me all sentimental and teary. He had several strokes and could not have used his right hand properly, so the handwriting is very difficult to read but it felt as if my pappa was standing next to me, talking. So I called mum to tell her what a treasure I found and she said yes, when I was moving books in the library room (sounds fancy, but it’s not
), I found old postcards you sent us from summer camps when you were 7, 8, 9 …
What is going to be left after us? Kids send sms’s from summer camps, best friends call each other on Skype and all my old emails are gone with the old account vanishing into 10010010011110 hell. When I switched from one computer to another, I lost much of our personal pictures. Photo of me and my grandfather, for example, from the day when he turned 75. And even if you do back-ups, how many times per year do you sit down at the computer with a coffee in your hand and look at the old pictures remembering? Not even talking about coffee next to your keyboard, big NO NO.
So here is a game for you.
Print this week one picture that is important to you. Take a photo of that picture printed and send it to me latest on Friday 1.10. You can add a little story about why that photo is important for you. From all the ones that I receive I will choose one person who will get a gift. What could that be ….. hmmmm … what about a set of 25 Christmas cards? What? Yeah, the beautiful, round, design feinschmecker cards – these cards.
If you cheat and use a photo printed long ago, I won’t be able to tell. Beware though, the Xmas cards are cursed and will burn your house down if you do.
Disclaimer: All 25 cards are of one design (you can choose which one) and this prize doesn’t include me taking a picture of you for the cards.
Let’s play!
Oh, here is a photo that I have printed. As a 75x100cm canvas. And I LOVE it. ♥♥♥
Six tween girls wanted to capture the day when they celebrated 10-year anniversary of knowing each other. Of course, I snatched the opportunity. Who would not?
Six girls … celebrating … friendship.
Sounds like FUN to me!
And did we have fun, indeed. Until the moment when it started pouring rain, it was literally as if someone mean opened heaven and said: “You, you down there with the camera and 6 beautiful models, you had enough fun for today!” So we had to pack up early, much of the spots that we planned for that day stayed uncovered. But we did get some nice memories in front of their high school (where they met) and in the near by park (where they did all the bad stuff together – getting drunk, smoking, kissing strangers on the street…). Oops, sorry girls, you didn’t say I can’t share this!
The drawings on the balloons do have a meaning. There is the smiley, the foodie, the toreadora, another smiley, big time s.mi.l.e.y., and the dancing queen.
I hope you had a fantastic rest of the day despite soaked feet. You were awesome models.
Thank you for being you!
(And me, little jealous me, who has all her high school friends 2000km away .. what am I to do? Ready to go out for a drink, anyone?)
Yes, I agree with you that starting Christmas planning in September could feel a little early.
But if you want to get a cute picture for your Xmas cards maybe you would like to consider doing that earlier than when the calendar says it’s 14.12. (which by the way is an important date in our family – someone dear has birthday
). And maybe, this year, you would like to get cards that are a little more special than the usual minilab creations.
I have just the thing. Round Xmas cards – five different beautiful designs wrapped in see-through envelopes… receiving these cards already feels like getting a little gift.
Look, they are beautiful…
And what about the photo? If you don’t want to rumage through your summer pictures and search for one where your whole family would be, sign up for one of the 8 minisessions.
You will receive all your holidays cards of the same design – you can choose any of these 5 beautiful designs. There is only 8 time slots available, so call 0400-358990 or email niki@nikistrbian.com to reserve your time quickly, before they are gone.
Happy autumn Monday!

Was I much looking forward to photographing a family with three small sons who (surprise surprise) love cars and all heavy machinery and a father who also (yeah, more surprise) loves cars, old cars and heavy machinery on top of working in the construction business? Yeah, I was! But I also wanted to meet the lady who manages four men every day … And she did manage them, easily and effortlessly, while looking absolutely stunning.
Seeing how your family is happy and your house a warm and secure place made me want another baby-boy (and a baby-girl, I do want to have a BIG family!). Here you are… Isn’t this just a perfect autumn photo?
Stay tuned, more picture evidence (cute boys, cute boys) coming next week, and I know you are going to love them.
The instant they stepped out of the car I knew we were going to click.
Laura wore green rubber boots under her wedding dress, moved graciously and had the loveliest smile.
Mikko was a gentleman, though a bit nervous gentleman with the ceremony approaching and all, and had the kindest smile.
They have a 2 year old daughter, they have been together for 15 years and they are IN LOVE.
And when I say love, I don’t mean the situation where you are just so used to being with someone that you are too lazy to even think about a change. I mean this:
they are there for each other, they read each other’s body language all the time and respond to it, there is a thousand of little kisses and gentle hand holding and it’s evident that the happiness of the other one is always on their minds. This I call love. Laura and Mikko, you have something very precious and I wish you to keep it forever. You are beautiful.
